The Aftermath of a Stroke

My husband cannot walk or stand. I placed him into a memory care unit nearby, although he does have about 80-85% of his cognitive abilities. But his short-term memory is gone, and he has no sense of time. He is prone to sundowning, as well.

We have him on a pretty good balance of "psych meds" to offset the apathy, anxiety, paranoia, depression, and aggressiveness that he was displaying. He acts like the man I have known for 50 years, but he is so diminished in what he can do, being essentially "paralyzed" from the waist down. It is hard to watch, but I try to "show up" for him, and enjoy the relationship we still have, although it is in many ways greatly changed.
